Margarita "Maggie" Block passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 4th at the age of 86 at her residence in Boynton Beach, FL.
Margarita is survived by her son, Robert; her grandson, Brandon; her daughter-in-law, Beth; her sisters, Olga and Victoria; and her loving nephews and nieces, as well as their spouses and their children. She is predeceased by her adoring husband of fifty years, Theodore Block.
Margarita was born in Lima, Peru on October 10, 1935 to Elena and Victor Cueva. In 1959, she and her sister Vicky emigrated to the United States, where she met the love of her life. On December 31, 1960, she married Theodore in Queens, NY, and on July 17, 1962, they welcomed their first and only son, Robert. She worked as a collector for Commander Oil from 1975-1984, after which she worked as the bank officer supervisor in the student loans department at Chase Manhattan Bank (formerly Chemical Bank) until her retirement in 1996. Following her retirement, she and her husband moved from Bayville, NY to Palm Coast, FL. After the passing of her husband in 2010, she resided there until 2013, at which point she moved to Boynton Beach, where she remained until her death.
Margarita was a devoted mother and wife, as well as a seasoned traveler, having visited more than fifty countries on five continents, accompanied by her husband. She was an avid Mahjong-player, theatre-goer, and opera attendee, but, above all, her favorite activity was spending time with her family. She was a Roman-Catholic and donated frequently to charitable causes, most especially to St. Jude Children's Hospital and Shriners Hospitals for Children.
A funeral service will be held at St. Gertrude's Roman-Catholic Church in Bayville, NY; the time of the service is to-be-announced. Interment to follow at Bayville Cemetery, as well as a memorial luncheon at The Tavern on the Plaza in Locust Valley.
